Starlink Mini Setup Guide

Modified on Fri, 17 Jan at 12:18 PM

PURPOSE

To enable customers and Simetry field personnel to complete a self-installation of a Starlink Mini Kit.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Download the Starlink App: Scan the QR code
  2. Unbox and Setup System:
    1. Starlink Mini Kit includes: antenna with integrated WiFi, antenna kickstand, pipe adapter, 15m DC power cable, power supply, and Starlink Plug. Remove all components from the box.
    2.  After-market protective travel cases, vehicle cigarette lighter (DC) power cables and truck third brake light mounts are available from Simetry. Please reach out to your Simetry sales rep for pricing.
    3. Lift the kickstand and plug one end of the provided cable into your Starlink. Ensure the plug is fully inserted such that the plug face is flush with the surface. Route the other end of the power cable to your power supply and plug it into a 110vAC power source.  To remove the antenna cable, pull firmly outward as there is no release tab.
  3. Find a clear view of the sky:
    1. Your Starlink needs a clear view of the sky so it can stay connected with satellites as they move overhead. Objects that obstruct the connection between your Starlink and the satellite, such as a tree branch, pole, or roof, will cause service interruptions. Use the obstruction tool in the App to ensure you have selected a suitable mounting location. If you are unable to download the App, find a location outdoors that is flat and has minimal obstructions to view the sky:                                                                                                                                 A house with a satellite dish

  4. Get Connected
    1. Connect to the “STARLINK” network from your device's Wi-Fi settings. STARLINK is the router’s default WIFI network name (SSID).
    2. To secure your Starlink WiFi network, use the Starlink App to rename your Starlink WiFi network and create a WiFi password. Open the Starlink App > Settings > Router > enter desired WiFi network name and password > Save.
    3. This step is optional, however we recommend securing your WiFi network. Your Starlink WiFi network is not password-protected until you set the password.
  5. Align Starlink
    1. Once connected, an alert on the App will show if you need to rotate Starlink to be properly aligned. Click the alert to use the alignment tool, and adjust your kit to match the image on your device.
    2. Alignment is not required for mobility use, but does optimize performance for permanent installations.
    3. As long as the Starlink dish has minimal obstructions, you are now connected to the internet!
  6. Service Line Activation & Remote Product Support
    1. For ease of product support, Simetry assigns each purchased Starlink kit an asset number, STL-xxxx. Locate your kit’s Simetry asset # and contact our 24/7 helpdesk for activation:
      1. Phone: 1-833-746-3879
      2. Email: support@simetry.com
    2. Simetry will process an activation within minutes of any request. Once activation has been completed, reboot your Starlink kit and service will commence.
  7. Can’t get online?
    1. Use the Starlink app to check for any alerts, outages, or obstructions.
    2. Check the WiFi router light:
      1. Slow Blinking: powered on.
      2. No Light: no power to Starlink.
      3. Fast Blinking: The LED will blink quickly for 3 seconds while holding down the reset button, then the LED will turn off as your Starlink reboots.
    3. Make sure everything is securely plugged in and there’s no damage to hardware or cables.
    4. Power cycle the Starlink by unplugging it, plugging it back in, and then starting at step 4.
    5. Factory reset the Starlink by locating the reset icon on the back. Press down firmly until you hear a click and hold for 3 seconds. The LED will blink quickly and shut off when complete.
    6. If you are still unable to connect to the internet, locate the system asset # and contact Simetry’’s 24/7 helpdesk for further guidance:
      1. Phone: 1-833-746-3879
      2. Email: support@simetry.com
  8. Using the Extra RJ45 Ports
    1. Remove the Starlink Plug next to the Starlink antenna cable port. Plug in your ethernet cable and connect the other end of your cable to your third-party hardware.
    2. Note: This product is no longer rated IP67 when using a standard RJ45 cable.
  9. How to Remove Kickstand
    1. Squeeze the release tab and pull it away from its fixed location.
  10. Install Pipe Adapter & Mount to Pipe
    1. Remove the kickstand. Route the Starlink cable through the opening in the pipe adapter and out the front end.
    2. Plug the cable into your Starlink and ensure the plug is fully inserted such that the plug face is flush with the surface.
    3. Slide the pipe adapter mount into your Starlink until it clicks into place.
    4. Loosen the locking thumbscrew and slide the Pipe Adapter onto your mounting pipe. Temporarily tighten the thumbscrew to stabilize Starlink onto the pipe. Connect the other end of the Starlink cable to the power supply and plug it into a power outlet. Follow the Starlink app instructions to align the antenna, then tighten the thumbscrew to lock your Starlink into place.
