This article compiles frequently used guides, technical setup instructions, and definitions to assist support agents and customers using Teal’s eSIM and OneChip platform.
FAQ Highlights
- APN Setting: Use
teal. If using Meerkat, usemeerkat.teal. - eSIM Support: Most modules (uBlox, Quectel, Telit, SIMCom, etc.) built in the last 5–10 years support eSIM.
- SMS Replies: Teal SMS tool cannot receive replies via SMSC GW.
- Static IPs: Assigned in the portal or via API. Meerkat tab handles IPv4, with limited IPv6 support.
- App Status Definitions: Queued, Installing, Success, Failed – refer to eSIM operation lifecycle.
eSIM Technology Basics
- M2M eSIM: Remote provisioning via platform. Embedded (MFF2) or plastic card (2FF/3FF/4FF).
- Consumer eSIM: Used in iPhones, activated via QR code.
- iSIM: Integrated in SoC, supported by TEAL for M2M use cases.
Technical Standards
- SGP.02: M2M devices, push provisioning.
- SGP.22: Consumer eSIMs, pull provisioning.
- SGP.32: Hybrid pull for IoT (coming soon).
Device Requirements: BIP & STK
Required for full OneChip compatibility:
- BIP: Open/Close Channel, Send/Receive Data, Get Channel Status
- STK: Terminal Profile, Terminal Response, Setup Event, Timer Mgmt
Teal AURORA Platform: Key Features
- Dashboard: View usage, top consuming apps/OneChips, and operation status.
- Network Apps: Change profiles, set fallback, monitor install progress.
- Data Cap Control: Apply/reset limits for monthly use.
- Heartbeat Monitoring: Track last connection and SIM responsiveness.
Common OneChip States
- Unactivated: Not usable; no connectivity.
- Activated: Ready for use and billable.
- Online: Heartbeat detected; device active.
- Suspended: Temporarily offline, still billable.
- Deactivated: Retired and not billable.
Bootstrap Profile & Fallback Behavior
Bootstrap (Global Default) provides temporary access when local profiles fail. May incur roaming fees. Use fallback locking to avoid unintended IP or network changes.
Special Network App Rules
Native apps follow host operator certification rules. Devices must be authorized per the mobile provider's regulations.
Quick Start Overview
- Insert OneChip SIM
- Log in to Aurora Portal
- Activate SIM from the OneChip eUICC section
- Set APN:
tealormeerkat.teal - Device should connect and report status
Note: Most network changes can be queued while offline and processed when online.
Troubleshooting
- Queued App: Check device connectivity and retry install.
- Fallback Profile: Use if connectivity fails. Contact support if recovery fails after retries.
- Heartbeat: Review last platform connection to verify SIM responsiveness.
